Business Idea: Searchable Database of Local Events
A database of local events to help vendors
The Background
I make granola bars.
One of the best growth channels we’ve found so far has been local events. Things like farmer’s markets, craft fairs, beer festivals, etc.
But here’s the thing. Finding these events sucks.
We need to go through Facebook events, Eventbrite, Google events, and a million different local sites.
And we need to check them every day to make sure we don’t miss one.
None of these platforms have an API or good search / filtering capabilities.
And obviously they don’t have events that haven’t been posted.
The Idea
The idea is to identify all of these data sources.
Then, scrape all of the event data and compile it into an easily searchable database with contact information, links to the event site, etc.
One of the main functions would be to allow searching for past events.
If we’re searching for events this summer, one of the best ways to find them is to look at events last summer, and then reach out to the venue.
The problem is that none of the event sites allow you to search for past (completed) events.
So after year 1 this product will become significantly more valuable.
Another main benefit would be that you could setup automations and notifications on this site so you don’t need to check everyday.
You’d just setup the filters that you’re looking for, and it would either automatically apply or send you a notification when a new event is found.
What do you think?
